What's the connection, you might ask. It seems a very logical one to me. The engineering side is the part of me that wants to know how does it work. How does what work, you ask? Well, for example, how does a car engine, or telephone, or acupuncture work, or even, how do cats communicate with horses?
Once I find out something thrilling, like how unimaginably immense a single galaxy is and how many millions of them there are in the universe, then I want to pass it on to others. There are multiple ways to do this. I can create a lesson plan and teach it formally in the classroom, I can turn it into a story and tell it orally, or I can turn it into a story and write it down. So. . . writer, teacher, engineer, they all fit together quite well, no?
